Re: [Stage IV Breast Cancer] Brenda's alternative treatment

2008-05-31 13:27:08

I thought Id try and explain to you the kind of treatment I got recently,
and continue to get. It is an alternative treatment. I learned so much about
nutrition and how it works to correct things that go wrong in the body. I was
given supplements, the sources, info about the biochemistry of the body that
makes this stuff work. The diet is not as difficult as I thought it would be.
It's very similar to what I've already been doing with the addition of the
Budwig part. (I had stopped doing that awhile back as it doesnt work if
youre taking chemo.) Budwig was a German scientist who had an above 90 % rate
of getting rid of cancer in her over 1000 patients, many told to go home and
die, and was nominated for the Nobel prize 7 times.) She used flax oil with
cottage cheese, but my protocol is not "by her book" because of advances in
technology. For example, a kind of whey is used with the oil instead of the
cottage cheese, but I was told not to use any other kind
of protein whey because this one was processed a certain way to preserve the
"aliveness" of the cells. I have this mixture twice a day. Plus one tablespoon
of cod liver oil.
I'm supposed to have 7 Tablespoons of supercharged glyconutrients a day and
other supplements. Glyconutrients that I'm taking are the 8 essential sugars
the body needs. Four recent Noble prize winners have done studies on
glyconutrients. We used to get these sugars in our diet, but now that things
are picked green and not ripe off the vine, and now that things are treated
to increase shelf life (destroying electrons) we are not getting but two of
these glyconutrients in a typical diet. Also, most folks don't eat organic.
The first order on the agenda on Monday, Dec. 5th, was to get my pain taken
care of. We went to a place where a robot worked on lengthening some muscles so
that the back was not pulled out of position. Now I have a kind of clamp that
is a hand tool based on the computer robot that lengthened my muscles in the
front so that the pain in the back would go away. My right side could do the
belly dance thrust really well; the left side did not go out so far, but now it
does, and when he got finished with me, my butt automatically tucked under,
posture was better, and I felt like I was 10 feet tall. Bob bought a massage
chair because the guy who invented the computer muscle machine purchased too
many and had them on sale to move them...at $699. He buys from Panasonic but
has the chairs tailor-made to his specifications. The chair is not the robot;
it is just a massage machine with a special adaptation. The doctor there,
Doctor John, (Bob saw him too) made out a prescription
so that we can get reimbursed for the chair and for Bob's visit to get his
back and legs to be less painful. This is Al's website: www.meilus.com if
interested. Al treats lots of athletes...Jack Nicholas, Tiger Woods, Dwight
Gooden, etc., and treats frozen shoulders and muscle tightening that causes
pain. Chiropractors get bones back in line but they get back out because the
muscles pull them back out of alignment.
All of this shows me so much promise, and I love the side effects...more
energy, slows down aging making skin look better, pain under control, etc.
They had had one breast cancer patient who was worse off than me. Don't know
when she started with them but they just started in Jan. of this year. She is
now doing great. They are not advertising; do not have phone # in the
directory, etc. for fear of being shut down. There was a place (not sure where
but I think it's near Tampa) where there was an experiment going on where 100
terminal cancer patients were given injections of aloe. Of the 100, all but 4
lived. But the FDA came in and shut the place down and put them in jail. I
happen to think that if they had been given chemo, the deaths would have been
more.
The doc and pharmacist that I saw had just returned from Texas where they
consulted with a scientist who was an expert on the aloe (where they extract
some of the essential sugars or glyconutrients) and he told them that aloe was
absorbed by the skin! Now the aloe used is not what you buy in the health food
store, but one that uses the new technology (I think freeze drying it). One
night I was wrapped around the waist (Bob wrapped me) with little gauze patches
of this aloe. Interesting. But what was suggested is a soak in a tub of it,
but it would have to be cold as heat destroys it. So, I suppose the best option
there would be to put something warm on your top and sit with your bottom in
the stuff. It would last a week so you would sit in it each day for an hour.
May try this. Don't know what it cost. Another source of the sugars but not all
of them is the kind of mushroom that my friend Judy is growing that you make a
tea from. No plant source has all of the 8
sugars. Glyconutrients allow the cells to communicate with each other. For
example, if a cell makes protein and it's to be sent somewhere, it is coded
(like with a zip code) and sent on its way, but if the sugars aren't there, it
gets lost and ends up not being effective. Also, if a cancer cell needs to be
zapped, the body may know it needs to send the soldiers out, but they get lost
or if the sugars are not there, the body tries to make them from the two that
they do get and the cancer is multiplying while the body is trying to make the
sugars. Too slow a process.
The pharmacist is brilliant, and was our primary source of information. He
has incredible knowledge of the biochemistry involved in the body (a bit over
my head as far as understanding all of it), and can also tell you of any bad
effects of drugs, etc. Almost like a walking encyclopedia of info. The doctor
answered all of my questions; we saw him less but the two men work so well
together...are on the same page and if you have a concern, you are paid
attention to and that concern is taken care of. The doctor has a patent for
something he invented and the pharmacist is in the process of patenting
something that will make treatments easier so you open one package with a
combined amount of several things.
My treatment cost $7000 but it was worth it. I have hope; whereas my other
option, the conventional treatment of chemo and radiation would eventually kill
me (my opinion, because of the stage of my cancer which has spread) and what I
see as a slow, unpleasant decline. When the supplements I'm on run out (they
are expensive as well) I will get more and the next batch will cost $1100. I
had to take out a loan, but again, its survival time for me. The treatment
there was phenomenal with individualized attention to every detail, to getting
my pain under control first, to showing us (there was another couple there in
treatment with me) how to fix meals and even fixing them for us, to taking us
to every place we needed to be---the orthomolecular place for infusions of Vit
C, the doc's office, back to our time share, to the health food store so we
could ask questions about what to buy and what not to buy and how to read
labels and what to avoid when reading the contents. Not
the typical treatment in a doctor's office where you wait and wait, and often
get caught up in glitches with the appointments, etc.
As for the Vit C, wow! I learned about its importance and was amazed. One
example: the body usually gets enough calcium for bones but if there's not
enough Vit C, the collagen needed to have it stick to the bones is not there
so the calcium doesn't work. The first infusion was for 50 G, next day 100 G,
next day 125, next day 150 and Friday 175 G. That should kick some butt
(cancer!) As it doesn't go through the digestive system, it does not cause
diarrhea in massive doses. I am to have a home care nurse infuse me twice a
week for a month. Since I was unable to set one up quickly, Bob and I went
back across the state and let the same folks infuse me two days in a row. But
tomorrow, I will have my first infusion here at my house. Medicare will pay
for the nurse to administer it but I will have to pay for the ingredients and
paraphernalia for the infusions. I will do two a week for a month and then
one a week for 6 weeks. Cost will be $115 a shot. What happens with Vit C in
the body is this. Cancer loves sugar, and Vit C has a chemical makeup very
close to that of sugar. So, cancer gobbles it up thinking its sugar. When
Vit C gets inside the cell, it turns into hydrogen peroxide and zaps the
cancer. Linus Pauling was a pioneer in studies with Vit C.
The other very important component of the program is to eat the right
oils. I can have coconut oil to cook with and flax oil only. The Omega 3 and
the Omega 6s should be in a ratio of 1 to 1 or 1 to 2, but a typical diet today
has a ratio of 1 to 20. The bad oils (any sold in a bottle that are yellow in
color) are as if you wrapped Saran wrap around the cells and nothing can
penetrate. Good oils and the Budwig part of the protocol allow 100 % cell
permeability. In the 1930s a scientist discovered that the cause of cancer was
a drop of 35 % of oxygen in the cells causing them to "ferment" or become
cancerous. Lack of oxygen was known to be the cause way back then. The Imitrex
I was taking lots of for my migraines shuts down oxygen to the cells. The other
patient who was being treated with me who had another kind of cancer also took
about the same amount of Imitrex (about 15 a month) for over 10 years!!! And of
course, this is touted as a safe drug. The doctor gave
me another way to get rid of these migraines.
I'm on iodine. Was told that women after a second child have depleted
whatever they had and need to have it added. It helps things in the body flow
better.
The Foundational Health Center treats most other diseases, but cancer is the
one they almost don't want to touch because of the fear of being shut down. So
word of mouth is how they're going as of now. They are thinking of cancer
treatment in another country. But that would be down the road quite a bit as
they're just getting started with their own place, and working out how to
proceed with all of this. The way they treat disease is different from
traditional medicine where most of it is to treat the symptom. Here they try
and treat the root cause of the problem but dont rule out traditional medicine
totally.
Well, thats probably more than you wanted to know.

Hi, I'm new to the group

2008-05-31 03:37:44

My name is Carol,
I found out about this group from a post by Marianne on the other group.
I found out I had bc and bone cancer last May. At that time they gave
me only weeks to live as it was spreading so fast! But I'm still here!
So far I have had 11 months of hormone based chemo, a mastectomy and I
am now on my third round of radiation. the first two were on each arm
and this one is on the chest where the surgery just took place a few
weeks back.
I started with Mariannes group and I only posted a couple of
times...mostly just was comforted by daily reading the others ...but
now it is time to get more involved!

cancer is gone

2008-05-29 08:53:20

The cancer is gone! I found out a week ago. I'm so happy! I broke
down crying the night I found out. My daughter broke down crying last
night when she found out. She's back in juvenialle hall, but at least
I know she is safe. It was so moveing when she started to cry. It's
just so much relief to know it's gone, it can be overwhelming, I never
figured I'd break down crying hearing that it was gone! I hope
everyone is doing well. I'm not on the internet so much anymore so I
often don't know what's going on with everybody. Love you guys.

HELP- Cooking for a Cure

2008-05-29 07:15:19

Please, I need your help. I am creating a cookbook to raise money for
the cause. It will support my walk for the San Diego 3 day 60 mile
breast cancer. This will be my sixth walk for breast cancer, and my
daughters want to join me this year. Each walker must raise $2,200 so
we need a BIG FUNDRAISER. I need your recipes to be included in our
Cooking for a Cure Cookbook. Please send your recipes and personal
story if you care to share to casighs@.... The end result will
be a very professional cookbook. Thank you!

How wonderful for you and your family that you were able to be at your son's

son is only thirteen, but I pray that I somehow will be there on his wedding
day.
Thanks for sharing this special news with us.

I'm sorry to hear about that, Moochie sounds like he was a great dog. Does the
name Moochie mean anything? My dog Pearl is pregnate, how long do they carry?
She got pregnate in November, I'd say around Thanksgiving time.

Thats neat you can let the dogs run. When we had Moochie he knew his boundaries
too and was a good dog. We had him for 13 years and he had to be put to sleep.

Good Evening All

2008-05-27 08:06:59

Hope this finds you all well and in fine fettle. It's a very wet
and windy, stormy night over here so I decided to check and see how
you are all doing before I turn in for the night.
Congrats Rosie - well done!
Come on Parvin - chin up, think happy thoughts or read Garfield or a
comic/cartoon you like. Garfield always cheers me up. Hee Hee.
Hi Casighs (is that your real name or just your email address?) I'll
try to dig out a good recipe for your book - good luck with your
fundraising.
Well, I saw my oncologist today and was pleasantly surprised. I
thought it was going to be doom and gloom! However, he's told me I
still have and always will have second mets in my liver (which I
thought had cleared with that last chemo). He's taking me off
Pamidronate for a couple of months and reinstating my Zoladex
injections to help the Exemestane clear out my ovaries again.
Because it's in my spine and upper body bones, I'm getting more and
more hunched - one of my vertebrae is protruding quite badly now.
Does anyone else out there have second bone mets? How long have you
had them? I'm now at the 3yr anniversary of Breast Cancer and 2 and
half years with second bone mets. I've heard of a couple of
celebrities who left us after 2 years, but I want to know of folks
who have been around much, much longer than that. I want to live
for a long time to come yet and certainly don't want this year to be
my last!
Hi BRENDA, been reading your email, though my brain can't take it
all in tonight cos I'm so-o-o-o tired. Well done you! I'm going to
print it off so I can read it properly tomorrow - again, PLUS, my
friend has been fighting for over 14years and continues virtually
drug free!
She eats/drinks/sleeps organic and is now doing a university course
on nutrition, etc. She is also a Reiki Master. A lovely and
amazing woman. I'm sure she'll appreciate your email too.
Anyway, time for some shut eye.
Take care and God Bless everyone.
Big Hugs
Luv Fi xx

Re: bone mets

Dear Ladies, I went to my onc today and get my chemo and blood
work. Now I found out my red blood cells are really low so I had to
start taking the shot aranesp for that. I was wondering why I was
so tired lately. Now I found out I have scans coming up and I just
hate them and I am so nervous about waiting for the results. I
don't know why I am like that but I've always been a worry wart.
All this chemo red blood cells going down, shots, scans, is getting
me down. I know I have to keep fighting but sometimes I get so down
with it all. I know I also have to keep postive and hope and pray
for the best.
Audrey it sure sounds that you love dogs. We have two one black
pure bred pug and one part chow huskie and shepherd. We love them
both too so much. Our little black pug is so spoiled and our big one
is too. He gets to stay in the house quite a bit now because he is
13 years old and is getting stiff. Our puggy sleeps with us in bed
under the covers now don't you think that is spoiled. My husband is
the one that spoils him the most.
What do you mean by second bone mets. I have bone mets but I have
only had to have my neck treated with 10 radiation treatments. But
I have it in other places too that don't bother me as much. You all
take care now, God Bless, Love, Sharon
BC anniversary. But I think you should know that there's a woman in
my support group who has lived with bone mets for 19 years! Yes,
nineteen! She says you just have to look at it like a chronic
illness.... you get flare-ups, you get it treated, then things go
back to "normal", then you get another area flaring up, you get
treated for it, etc.. People at the BC Coalition have been known to
rub her head for luck every time she comes through the door! :)

Puppies, School, My Daughter

2008-05-25 07:01:31

Will my daughter came home yesterday. Today we got her a daybed with a mattress
for $90.00. So far so good with my little girl. She's a big help around the
house. My dog Pearl had her puppies on the 15th. I helped deliver the last
one. I actually ripped open the bag worried that it wasn't going to get oxygen
soon enough. She had eight! We're keeping two of them. Since I have a dog
named Peanut, I was thinking of naming these two Butter and N'Jelly. That way I
can call out Peanut Butter N'Jelly. I started school today to. I was suppose
to start yesterday, but I picked up my daughter that day, so it just wasn't a
good day to go to school. I had my spanish class today and theatre. I've got a
boyfriend now to, wich is kind of wierd I haven't had one for along time. I've
been dateing this guy named Ronny, and we had a talk a couple of days ago, and
now I'm his girlfriend, and just the day before I told him about dealing with
cancer wich I thought would send him running.
Guess I was wrong. Anywho I hope everyone is doing well.
Love,
Audrey

so badly to react to, and I just have to take a step back and
say, "you know...we're misunderstanding each other, I'm just gonna
let it go."
Which is exactly what I did on the 'man' subject when the average guy
will talk one way about heavy women but then have their way with them
then disrespect them.
You had assumed I was talking about myself and my own experiences and
to me it sounded like you thought I was the only woman that this had
ever happened to. (Not a great feeling to be held in that light I
assure you) So when you said you were sorry that happened to me, I
pretty much threw up my arms and thought 'forget it'.
Truth of the matter is this: I have had lots of heavy-set women
friends over the years in AZ as well as WA. As a matter of fact, we
used to say we were in the "200 club" and so I'm sure you can figure
out what that means. The thing is this, mistreatment from men was
common among some of my friends and EVEN some of the ones that were
MARRIED to the guy.
So with that incident/embarrassment fresh in my mind, now this new
one when what I was trying to do was help to troubleshoot a problem
NOT diagnose it, for someone who appeared to be reaching out for
suggestions, ESPECIALLY with the header on the original post, I just
figure 'how long can I last with confusion like this going on?'

Please don't take a break from us. I look forward to all the input from
everybody. I may not always agree with everyone but that's what makes us human
we're all different and approach each situation in our own way. having
differences of opinion gives us more to think about. If I don't agree with
someone's opionion I can just delete it and recognize that they were trying to
help. You have so much to offer us newbies Shenise and I appreciate your posts
and hope you stay with us. I hope that we too can give you the support that you

Shenise, please don't leave or take a hiatus from the group. We need you.
Don't take anything anyone says to be confrontational or accusatory. I know I
sometimes fumble with my words and I personally never want to offend anyone.
sometimes when we say things they appear to sound stronger or meaner than they
are meant. None of us are perfect or we wouldn't have wound up where we are.
Anything that is said to anyone on here is just meant to be helpful, not
hurtful. Please remember that we all care and are only trying to help each
other. Your friendship means a tremendous amount to me and I know this is
just another tiny misunderstanding. Please keep an open mind and don't
interpret anything to be a affront to you. Love to all, Naomi

2008-05-21 12:36:40

Joanne,
I realize you didn't write this to me, but I just have to respond to
this . . .
Quite a lot of us here on the list have families and/or loved ones
for whom we do things, and going to a fast food place is one of those
things that might happen in a family relationship. Young kids can't
do those things for themselves! I don't have young kids, but I do
have a spouse. He's working some crazy wild hours right now, and if
he wanted something from a fast food joint, I would gladly do the
drive-thru for him, regardless of my own personal feelings about the
horrors of fast food, or my own inability to have some of it myself.
It's just part of the reality of the give and take of family life.
Learning to deal with the stresses of not being able to partake of
what others are having is part of the healing process, as far as I'm
concerned. I refuse to never be able to go to a friend's house for a
meal because she doesn't eat the same way I do. I refuse to never go
to another church social because I can't have the food being served.
I refuse to not go to the movies because I can't have popcorn and a
soda. That's just a ridiculous way to approach life!! I think it's
important to find a way to cope and/or adapt. Doing so takes time and
practice, and sometimes, even some failure, before we figure it out.
Having a box of breakfast sandwiches in my freezer would be worse
torture than going through the drive-thru, because it would mean
those stupid things, in a gigantic box, no less, would be screaming
my name all day, every day until they were gone. Nearly 2 weeks of
that kind of torture (assuming that 1 was consumed every day) would
be awful to endure! Breakfast bars would be just as bad to have in my
cupboards. I wouldn't even have to nuke those to get at the carbs and
fat! And they usually have a fair amount of sugar in them, too! Just
shove splinters under my fingernails, why don't you?!
A few minutes in the drive-thru, even if I can't have the stuff, is
wa-a-a-a-y preferable than having to live under the same roof with
it!!
Jill
lap RNY 12-03-07

Finally I wanted to say that Costco sells a good size box of cresent
breakfast sandwiches that you can pop in the microwave for a minute
and they are fairly decent. I think they are a dozen in a box. You
might also look into breakfast bars to go with a quick breakfast.
That way it would keep you away from the fast food places that you
can't eat much from anyway. I would be very sad to have to go into a
McDonalds for someone else after I get this surgery. I would have to
tell them they were SOL, because I couldn't torture myself that way.

Getting in a little more water this past week. I think part of the
problem was I was a big water drinker and after surgery did not like
the taste. But it tasted better last week.
My weight loss seems to have slowed last week. I think it was not

Hi there, well here is the h.pylori update. STILL SICK!!! sorry but this sucks.
I need your input, opinion. I finished the 3000 mg of antibiotics!! and the
prilosec. all 3 bottles of meds last Monday. each day since then the pain has
started to increase again :( I am at my wits end. my doctor had the nerve to go
on vacation!! LOL I emailed her last week and I'm about to email her right now
and let her know that I am in tears with desperation. I read alot about this
mess online but it's all so clinical that I get frustrated, it looks like all
the websites just copy and paste the same answers.
What happens now? I finished the meds, it appears it's not cured. Debby said
that they could do a blood test to see if it's cleared up? i hope so do not want
another endoscopy so soon. does anyone have any ideas of what now? my biggest
thing is that this is interrupting my surgery schedule. also, I've been
dropping weight that I don't think I should drop so quickly like within days I
lose pounds, thinking it's due to this stomach issue.
anyway any input anyone can give me will help. these doctors get me fed up
sometimes.

Re: Question about Angina-OT

2008-05-15 17:48:16

Jackie,
Did they do an EKG when you were in the ER the last time? Angina
mimicks the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Sometimes one of
the signs of a panic attack is angina as well. I wouldn't
necessarily say this has anything to do with your surgery, but could
be something totally different and serious. I'm glad you went to
the ER the first time - perhaps you should now as well. It's
nothing to overlook.
What are you symptoms? You said you have strange pains around your
chest area. Do you have tightness around the chest area? Are you
having any difficulty breathing? Do you feel like you have acid
reflux? Pain in the left arm, jaw, middle of your back?
If any of the answers are yes - go to the ER now. Don't play around
and wait.

Hey guys,
Quick question. On one of my groups someone was talking about Angina. Can
you tell me what your symptoms were. i have researched the internet but I would
like to hear from someone who actually has it.
I have been hacing strange pains in my mid chest and abdominal area. I have
been to the ER and they did all kinds of tests xrays, boodwork, CT scan and
nothing showed. I have several symptoms of angina. I may go back to the ER but
I want to be armed with info when I do. My surgeon is 4 hours away and I do not
have a specialist near me.
Any info is appreciated.

Ok, now you sound like my dad, you passed through Az. on your way to Mi.?
When my parents leave Mi. at the end of the summer my dad swings by AL on
his way back to Az. To funny, you must like to drive like him :) As far as
the bumper sticker, yes we heard about it, it came out just after we left.
Why we left Az., (most of my parents friends thought we were crazy, but they
have never lived in Phx. a summer, my friends were from Cleveland, Chicago,
Denver and Omaha, so they all understood). But really, I got sick to the
lack of change in weather. I love the fact that less than a week ago we got
12" of snow, the next 2 days were mostly sunny and today rain, tomorrow rain
with a chance of thunder!!! Phoenix's seasons are, cool and sunny, warmer
and sunny, and hot and sunny :o), they got rain around December 10th, that
was the first rain since March!!!! I just cannot handle that anymore. Our
winters suck, like their summers suck, if we wanted beautiful weather all
year, we'd all live in San Diego, and boy is it expensive there now, imagine
if we all went there. I spent many summer vaca's there escaping our heat, I
love it there, well minus the fires and mud slides :o), I guess it's not
perfect anywhere! We'll just go visit different places. But I love being
back here for the most part.

Think QVC and Diamonique! If you really want a replacement
engagement ring, shop there. You can get a beautiful engagement or
wedding ring for about $100 - $150. It's something to think about.
Or, the other option is when you get down to your goal weight, have
your engagement/wedding ring resized. That's what I plan on doing!

Hi Sheggy!
I'm so glad things have evened out for you.
It's strange - your periods are now settled and mine are going
nuts. I was perfectly normal after the surgery... strangely so.
Every 28 days without any interruption. Lasted only 3 or 4 days,
the first 2 days the heaviest, after that very light. Over the last
6 weeks, I have had my period 3 times AND they have been SO heavy (5
or 6 days of heavy). I'm attributing this to why I've been so tired.
I need to get my thyroid checked (T3, T4, TSH) so maybe things are
off there and that's why. We'll see!
Congratulations on the 117 lbs gone forever!! I'm so proud of you!

Hi Joanne-
I can totally sense and understand your frustration. I've been in your shoes so
many times when I know that I'm just trying to help, but people take what I say
the wrong way. This is such a diverse group and the fact that we're mostly
women who've had weight loss surgery also makes us a pretty hormonal group.
I really encourage you to not take certain things personally. I know there are
lots of things I read here and other places that I want so badly to react to,
and I just have to take a step back and say, "you know...we're misunderstanding
each other, I'm just gonna let it go." It's hard, especially for someone with
my personality type, but in the end it works out better because I don't get
worked up and start pissing people off.
I very much like you being here, and I hope that you will decide to stay. Also,
I hope that everyone reading this will take this as a reminder that you're all
special to me and to this group. I know sometimes we're catty, but we're
family, and family always forgives (or at least they try to anyway).

Re: OT: Adopted a Dog!

2008-05-11 21:32:26

Congratulations! You saved a life and a fortune on grooming bills by
adopting this type of fur and possibly on vet bills by adopting a mix,
hopefully she won't have any genetic troubles from either side of her
family tree by being multiple breeds together.
but
That is such a perfect attitude when you get a dog, that you can live
with the little imperfections that they bring into our homes. If you
were compulsively tidy, it might drive you crazy that a shedding animal
was coming into your home. You can try to keep her shedding to a
minimum by buying her a soft bristle brush (almost like a horse brush
or like an old shoe shine brush like they used to use when they shined
shoes way back, like a round wooden frame with bristles that wouldn't
hurt your skin if you brushed it across yourself, Not a metal bristle
brush, those are too harsh for short coats) and brushing her down once
or twice a day. It keeps her skin and fur healthy.
Normally hyper dogs are that way out of boredom. If you have never done
obedience work with a dog, take out some books at the library that
train you how to train her and try to work with her on leash for 15
minutes every day. That will help her learn manners and if you can run
her or have her play ball for 1/2 hour each day, that will help a
little more.

All this whole paragraph that I wrote here should have specified that
I was telling this information for the kids, NOT for Shenise since
she couldn't eat this stuff. I just figured the kids could throw a
cresent in the microwave and grab a granola bar and eat that on the

Wow 117 lbs, that's great, I'm so happy for you. I have PCOS to, the week
before my period I *really* want to sleep in, and my sweet (chocolate), salt
gene really kicks in. I had surgery 7 weeks ago, and have only had one
period since, the sleepiness was there, but luckily the sweet part seemed to
lessen. I eat egg drop soup so I did get my salt fix. I don't think the
sweet/salt fix is because of PCOS, most people I know have that craving
too.
Anyways, congrats again on the 117, fabulous :o)

ring with a ring guard around it to make it look bigger. After 16
years of marriage, my ring guard broke, so now I have this little tiny
engagement ring, that now keeps spinning around my fingers because I've
lost so much weight. I keep telling my hubbie he owes me a new ring!
He is so sweet, he would love to get me a new ring, but we just can't.

OT: Adopted a Dog!

2008-05-07 12:38:43

Ok--I followed some advice and went to the shelter. I didn't intend on
adopting today. BUT, I walked by the cages and the eyes on Lucy, just
grabbed at my heart. She was the one! She is a 2 year old german
shepard/greyhound mix. She isn't big like you would think, her face
looks shepard, but she is very short haired, so yes she will shed, but
she matches my carpet.
She is coming home on Wed. after she gets fixed.
We are all so excited. We've wanted a dog for so long and now that we
have our own house, we are able to have one.
They say she's a little hyper and that's why she was given up. Her
previous owner had a small apartment and couldn't keep her.
Thanks for all the advice. I'll post a picture of her later this week
when we get her home.
Sheggy/Shannon

Moodiness, cycles, exhaustion, and undies!

2008-05-07 09:49:23

Ok--I can't remember who was having issues, but just to chime in here--
that's perfectly normal. My emotional state has evened out now, but I
was a huge mess for several months. It will pass.
Now that I've lost a lot of weight, my cycles are normal now (and I"m
on the pill--but even when I was on the pill before, my cycles weren't
normal due to the PCOS). So what I have figured out is that I get
EXTREMELY tired and worn out the week before my cycle. That's what I
was going through when I posted that I was exhausted. I wonder if it
is strictly hormonal or has something to do with my hemochromatosis,
maybe the iron builds up too much the week before and then levels out
during my period. Just a thought.
Anyway,
I've now lost 117 pounds!!!!!!
That's a person!
I can wear size 2x clothing. I couldn't wear 2x clothing when I got
married, and that was 16 years ago. It's amazing. I finally got a
couple pair of new undies because I'm about walking out of my old ones.
SO--new years resolution: Get more exercise. Now that we adopted a
dog I can get out and walk, I'll have to!

opinions on pretty, white DRESSES?!?

2008-05-06 18:38:34

No snide remarks about wearing white, Pat!
I went out looking at dresses, and information gathering, today.
The choices in chiffon, which I have my heart set on, are a bit
limited. If I want something in satin that's all scrunched up in
weird ways, though, I have HUNDREDS of choices... what's up with
that? And how silly are the wedding pictures of THOSE dresses going
to look in 15 years?!?
Anyway, taking into account the drastic weight loss issue, and my
overall body type (I'm not quite 5'4", with a large bust (even when
I was thin)), and what's available (even from designers), and what's
in my price range... here are a couple of options for dresses that
could be altered more easily than other styles to fit whatever size
I end up as in early December. (All of these dresses WILL have to
be ordered 5-6 months in advance.)
A couple of them are very similar, and I was able to see all but one
of them in person today, but there's one I liked better than the
others (it's SO hard to tell though when they only have a size 8 to
try on!)
Keep in mind that I will probably have a lot of excess tummy skin
that will need disguised, and because of "bat wing" issues (which I
*might* be able to get fixed before then), I will likely have to add
a chiffon or lace wrap/shrug/jacket of some sort..

Re: [WLS Friendship & Support] Crescent Breakfast Sandwiches from Costco

2008-05-05 17:47:08

I can eat about 1/2 of the breakfast burrito. they are pretty good but they are
a real treat because no matter what, the tortilla is really high is calories and
then the cheese and sausage really dont have much redeeming in them.
My fav. on the fly breakfast is 1/2 of a carb and sugar control yogurt (Dannon
has one that is terrific) and 2/3-3/4 C of Kashi Heart to Heart cereal. They
are great together and totally able to be eaten in the car as once it is mixed
together it is not too sloppy. I eat this every weekday morning. Actually
everyone in my office has started eating it....it is delicious and filling.

SORRY TO hijack this post.
Are the crescent sandwich rolls really a good choice? The ones I
have seen are EXTREMELY high in fat and calories. I used to get them
before I had surgery. Just thought I would ask, because maybe your
costco has something different, but I have stayed away from them
because of the fat content.
I know at McDonalds, you can get a breakfast sandwich and take of the
bread. You can also just get an order of scrambled eggs. I haven't
looked at the breakfast burritos, but maybe those are ok. With any
breakfast foods, you have to watch out for the fat content. I have
had McDonalds fruit and yogurt parfaits and done ok with those, but I
don't dump on sugar either.
Just my 2 cents.

The hormones in our fat stores get dumped into our bloodstream when we lose wt

Ally had a bad situation when she took antidepressants and everyone reacts to

I dont plan on staying on Cymbalta but for a few more months while i am losing
